En tout cas, c’est comme ça pour moi en ce moment.  Je ne veux pas entendre parler des hillary et ségo, encore moins les autres - sauf Obama, mais lui, il est spécial - et je tiens à ce que tout ce qui est guerre, tueries, les barbareries, il faut que ça cesse une bonne fois pour toute, que le vent de folie qui a traversé et fait trembler la planète se pose un peu et nous laisse respirer, ok?

Donc, le contenu du blog va évoluer, en même temps que moi.  Normal.  J’ai pas envie de tout effacer et recommencer, ou de commencer un autre blog, après tout, je suis la même personne - mais transformée quand même.  On en reparlera.  Pour l’instant, je me contente d’annoncer la couleur.

C’est donc parti. Le voici ce grand gars, sorti de nulle part - qui fait rêver. Au maximum, on pourrait s’offrir quelqu’un qui sort de l’ordinaire - et comment - et qui a de bonnes idées et la méthode aussi. Les uns et les autres souhaitent se pencher sur les petits détails de ceci, cela. Grand bien leur fasse - les grandes lignes qu’il avance sur le nitty gritty me conviennent. Par contre, ce qui m’intétesse, c’est qu’il a envie de “transformer le pays” et ça, je suis partante. Le pays a réellement besoin de se transformer, et relativement vite. Avec Barack, on a peut-être une chance de réussir. Avec les autres, c’est le sur place, donc le recul; c’est la continuité vers le désastre annoncé. On reviendra là-dessus, je suppose, lorsqu’il faudra parler de la concurrence, et ce n’est pas brillant, il faut le dire. C’est même nul.

Ça, c’était le max, Barack élu président - chair de poule immédiate. Au minimum, pour les accros de la politique, de la société ET de la culture américaines - et ne le sommes-nous pas tous quelque part au moins un peu, par la forces des choses? - cette campagne présidentielle garantit le trip supême. Ça va secouer à tellement de niveaux que le vertige est assuré à un moment ou un autre. C’est que la dose est forte et soudaine, il faut l’admettre.

Entre les racistes et la mère Clinton, l’hystérie semble déjà culminer - à 12 mois des premiers votes, là-bas en Iowa et au New Hampshire…enfin, ils ne votent pas vraiment en Iowa, ils “causussent”… très particulier, comme système.  Nous y reviendrons.

La nouveauté réside dans l’acheminement simultané des nouvelles du monde entier, en direct ou presque, jusqu’à nous. J’ai remarqué, par exemple, que l’accès à Al Jazeera English est gratuit pour les connections sur lignes téléphones (dial-up). Ce qui veut dire que quiconque à accès a un ordinateur branché au téléphone est informé (ok, en anglais). Non seulement les infos d’Al Jazeera English portent sur les recoins les plus reculés du monde, mais encore leurs analyses approfondies et débats mettent en valeur les voix politiques, économiques, sociales du tiers-monde, ce qui, franchement, n’a pas de prix.

Du coup, nous pouvons suivre - parfois avec halètement - le tumulte politique mondial qui, en fonction de l’intérêt qu’elles pourraient susciter en moi, ferons l’objet d’une Chronique politique mondiale.  Le côté dead serious des choses ne nous échappe certes pas, mais un peu d’humour n’a jamais fait de mal à personne, hein?

Avouez tout de même que les sorties honteuses - hello Tony Blair! - et les humiliations répétées - coucou, les républicains américains - des uns et des autres méritent d’être soulignées, avec amertume, je dirais même colère.  La simple dérision ne leur fait pas réellement justice, mais que peut le peuple, dites-moi?

Par ailleurs, Sarko qui veut en remettre, au carré.  La Ségo Royale qui inspire surtout de la révulsion, déjà.  le choix des nuls, pour la France.

Et puis alors, pardon - la présidentielle américaine qui démarre sur les chapeaux de roue, avec les primaires chez les soidisantdémocrates, avec un an d’avance sur la normale, carrément.  Plein de fric, et puis, et puis, le premier métis (aux US, il est noir), la première femme et le premier latino candidats sérieux.  Quelques anglos blancs dans le paquet aussi, mais on les remarque à peine, les pauvres.  Prochains numéros: fiches des candidats - de notre point de vue, bien entendu.

This is depressing - Driss Ksikes is one of my favorite journalists in Morocco (a tiny crowd, the other one Abubakr Jamai also persecuted) and his magazine Tel-quel one of my favorites too (the second of 2: Le journal hebdomadaire).  These two guys and their colleagues have radically transformed the media landscape and one had hoped - indeed expected, although, sadly, not demanded!) that the so-called “opening” of the late 90s would actually mean something in terms of freedom of speech.

Sadly - as long as these guys have been operating - they have been persecuted by the very individuals and government services they cover.  They’ve been financially ruined by prosecution after prosecution and now - these bight young energies - are threatened with jail!  It’s disgraceful and depressing.

This guy rests his case and quotes the LA Times:

Pot is called biggest cash crop “For years, activists in the marijuana legalization movement have claimed that cannabis is America’s biggest cash crop. Now they’re citing government statistics to prove it. A report released today by a marijuana public policy analyst contends that the market value of pot produced in the U.S. exceeds $35 billion — far more than the crop value of such heartland staples as corn, soybeans and hay, which are the top three legal cash crops….”

Contractors lost in Pentagon bureaucracy

I kid you not.  Says Wapo:

WASHINGTON — The Pentagon is still struggling to get a handle on the unprecedented number of contractors now helping run the nation’s wars, losing millions of dollars because it is unable to monitor industry workers stationed in far-flung locations, according to a congressional report.

Now - how cute is that?

I know, I know, been gone a while - a combination of being bored with the news and a lot of work. But, I have to comment of the arrival of Al Jazeera English on desktops everywhere. My own cable provider - Comcast - isn’t offering it but I went ahead and forked over $5.95 to check it out as soon as it launched.

Watching this is an entirely new experience for me - just as their most famous reporters have been saying on the promotion tours: this is truly unique in the world of English speaking news. The headlines pour in from around the world - with reporters on the groud and pics live: Palestine, Congo (Kinshasa, deep in a gold mine), Darfur, the Bush trip in Asia, etc. In that order from what I’ve seen so far - from the more acute down.

Overall, the atmosphere is very classy and neutral - the ads are particularly beautiful. I’d say sort of BBCish, with an extra dose of class and depth. Definitely far less euro/us centered that the BBC. This is another thing that seems to be true from the promotion hype: they give you the news of the world out there - minute by minute - from the details of post election Congo, to the turmoil in Mexico to Palestinians rushing in mass to protect a building from Israeli airstrikes to Indonesian protesting a Bush visit on the streets.

Those are the headlines, people, with - once again - live reporters on the ground!!! It’s extraordinary. If they keep this up, their slogan “setting the news agenda” will indeed prove very true because, truly, the competition will either scramble to catch-up or crumble. Thank you Qatar.

What does it mean?”

What an extraordinary statement.

Looks like the AP has had enough: one of their photographers has been held for 5 months for no apparent reason. They are very pissed off and taking aim. The language in this report is as accurate as it gets and puts the situation in its proper context. About time.

That folks are even having to discuss torture as if it were a reasonable topic for the US of all places has been nauseating enough.  That Republican Senators are having to spell it out for everyone shows the kind of morals to which some policymakers - and the media that enable them - have descended. Say the Senators - according to WaPo:

[…] the United States should not try to limit its obligations under the Geneva Conventions. Instead, they want CIA officers to abide by the common understanding of the treaty’s meaning, including a ban on ‘outrages upon personal dignity.’

Meanwhile, the President insists that he needs the meaning of “cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment”  clarified for him:

“So the question I ask about any piece of legislation is, will the program provide legal clarity so that our professionals will feel comfortable about going forward with the program? That’s what I’m going to ask. And I will resist any bill that does not enable this program to go forward with legal clarity. . . .

“If there’s not clarity, if there’s ambiguity, if there’s any doubt in our professionals’ minds that they can conduct their operations in a legal way, with support of the Congress, the program won’t go forward and the American people will be in danger.

This is messed-up, really.  What’s not clear about “cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment”?  Let’s see: Abu Ghraib, ok?  That’s all those things.  If I remember correctly, the low-level low lives suckers who got caught on pics are in jail but - although some of them have argued the “we were told to do it by our bosses” - I haven’t seen any investigation of that.  What if they were right?  What if, as many suspect by now, this was policy?  Seems clear to me that was “cruel, inhumane and degrading treatment” - no question about it.

Either we stand for all the stuff we claim to stand for or  we don’t.
