Israel’s idiots, our “representatives” - sic July 25, 2006

The So-called Democrats are having a hissy fit because the President of Iraq condemned the “criminal Israeli aggression in Lebanon” and failed to “condemn Hezbollah”. Meanwhile, we haven’t heard a word about the devastataion in Lebanon from the hordes of So-called Democrats lining up on cable news to “support Israel” - not a word. They are as cluelessly insular as their Israeli masters, continuously parrotting them.

Schumer sounded pathetic, haranguing the Iraqi President on c-span a moment ago: “Where do you stand on the war on terror?” still trying to sell us that old tired, ineffective line. Hey, Schumer and assorted Israeli tools, the game is up, you’re seen for what you are and you are being challenged on it. Deal with it or get out of the People’s House.

Our tax dollars at work… July 17, 2006

We, US tax payers, are paying for this Killing, maiming, devastating Arab people and lands, at will, with the tacit and overt support of the “civilized” (sic) world. The US media has been its usual self, blind to Arab suffering, supportive of the Israeli gratuitous onslaught on Lebanon and conducive of its sickening lies and propaganda.

I’ve been nauseated having to follow the news all week-end on CNN, the reporting is so incredibly distorted and ignorant. I remain particularly disgusted by the utter silence from US “lefty” blogs. Crimes against humanity are going on in Lebanon, and the American left tries to cover it up. As for the so-called Democrats in Congress, Barbara Boxer, Diane Feinstein, Joe Biden… outdid themselves on the network, lying for Israel, covering up crimes of a massive scale conducted against Lebanon and its people. John McCain, and a few other bush types were also on, doint Israel’s dirty work of deception and misinformation. (more…)

From Salon.com (membership req.):

Better late than never, or what a difference a Supreme Court decision makes:

Alberto Gonzales, memo to the president, Jan. 25, 2002: “As you have said, the war against terrorism is a new kind of war … In my judgment, this new paradigm renders obsolete [the Geneva Conventions’] strict limitations on questioning of enemy prisoners and renders quaint some of its provisions.”

Donald Rumsfeld’s office, memo to military officials, July 7, 2006: “The Supreme Court has determined that Common Article 3 of the Geneva Conventions of 1949 applies as a matter of law to the conflict with Al Qaeda … You will ensure that all DoD personnel adhere to these standards.”

White House Press Secretary Tony Snow, July 11, 2006: “It’s not really a reversal of policy.”

No satisfaction at all in being proven right, is there? Anyone with a drop of common sense about them knew damn well that the anglo-american invasion/occupation of Iraq was based on lies, had zero chance of “success” - how could it? - and would end up bringing the anglo-american sphere of influence down a few notches.
As for the nauseating abuses of Iraqi civilians all of a sudden “coming to the surface now” as if Iraqi civilians haven’t been the victims of this crazy misadventure from the start - what took so long?

All we can do is continue to pray for peace and justice - while our politicians - Democrats and Republicans alike - continue to mislead us and kill people in our name. For shame.

bush blair press conf

Had to mute them - heard this stuff all before - in history books of the 19th and 20th century, you know.

Apparently, the headline for this Anglo-US Summit clownery is going to be “imperialist invaders admit mistakes”… Good grief, people.

Now, I’m hearing MSNBC Chris Matthews and whoever that airhead going all mushy about how “emotional” all this is and “poor guys are so tired” and “isn’t it amazing they feel so bad?” and “wow, they really feel strongly in their cause, wow”, “they really deeply believe that they did the right thing”.

Matthews even thought he heard echoes of Lincoln - I kid you not. Amazing stuff. Olbermann threw a bucket of icy cold water on all the BS. I don’t think it woke the Matthews creeps up though.

They never learn, do they, the arrogant bastards. Clue to Biden and the rest: Iraq is not yours to slice and dice as you wish. Fool.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry at the desperation.

Papa&Maman

According to the AP:

The surprise visit by President Bush’s top national security officials was a dramatic show of support for Jawad al-Maliki, the Shiite selected to be prime minister, in a development the United States hailed as evidence of substantial progress. (silly hyperbole emphasized by me)

This is a puppet show for the US public because it’s sure as hell isn’t going to help matters over there. Support - especially the fake kind - from the US is not beneficial to the credibility of any Iraqi politician, quite the contrary.

No bad tools, just bad workers

That’s a French saying: il n’y a pas de mauvais outils, il n’y a que des mauvais ouvriers - or something to that effect. In other words, a tool is not responsible for its owner’s SNAFUs. Basta.

I’m talking about this FoxNews tool replacing that other tool before him. This is a guy who went on Bill Maher’s show a few months ago and, while eagerly (and stupidly) defending the misadventure in Iraq, claimed, among other inanities:

“Girls in Iraq can now [that the US is there, presumably] go to school and get an education”

This is the kind of stuff that makes my skin crawl. Iraqi women are, and have been, among the most educated in the Middle East. Can this jerk (now WH press sec) and the rest of the rightwing robots be that ignorant or do they (perhaps rightly) that their audiences are just as ignorant as they are. In fact, neither Maher, nor the other panelists called Snow on that falsehood. Bah.

Besides, seriously, who cares which monkey jumps through loops and twists itself into knots on a daily basis at the podium of the White House briefing room? Different face, same crap, no difference. We’re all just going through the motions here, while we pray for divine relief.

There is far too much military worship in this country, if you ask me. I don’t like to see the military getting involved in politics or policy, frankly. They are entitled to their opinion, I suppose, and the’ have their own internal channels to voice their dissent if necessary. I appreciate the civilian leadership as established in the Constitution, so I’m not prone to wanting to hear from the military. As far as I know, the military was cheering on the Iraq invasion, let’s never forget that.

Sy Hersh’s TV and radio interviews

Thanks to Scott Horton at Antiwar.com for the nice summary of links to Sy Hersh’s interviews where he expands on his piece in the New Yorker  about attack plans against Iran, including “tactical nukes”.

Crooks and Liars has the video of Hersh on Wolf Blitzer’s show.

Amy Goodman also interviewed him on Democracy Now . This is a Must See/Hear/Read.

Scott also asks: “Who knew Iran’s government had offered to recognise Israel?!”.  I have to say, I was shocked too when I heard Hersh say this.

Another “I was wrong” from someone on the American so-called left.  At least, this post is well thought out and comprehensive.  But it did take a severe defeat and thousands of innocent deaths, to wake some folks up.

Let’s see if all this self-reflection evolves to a consciousness that includes broader issues, such as Palestine, to cite just one example.  Sure isn’t happening with the Democratic party leaders, is it?  That’s a complete non-issue to the well-meaning American left but that’s its foreign policy test, as far as I am concerned.  And an open-ended “peace process” that never comes to closure while the situation of Palestinian worsens - à la Bill Clinton - is not a policy, just a dodge.

Iraq = Bush’s Vietnam, says Ignatius

Posted by Delilah in : General, Iraq, US, Washington Consensus , add a comment

WaPo’s self-appointed wiseboy, David Ignatius, is waking up.  Hurray. He’s figured out that Iraq is Bush’s Vietnam in all sorts of ways, including presidential communications, and frets that a decent communication strategy is needed to manage an orderly departure from Iraq…
Whatever - at every antiwar demonstration that I attended, there have been t-shirts reading “Iraq=Bush’s Vietname”.  Glad to see Ignatius come onboard.  Sure took him and the rest of Washington’s establishment long enough.

Civil war scenario not playing out in Iraq February 24, 2006

Posted by Delilah in : Iraq , add a comment

TV networks, blogs and the rest of the media yesterday were literally salivating at the possibility - following the sinful destruction of the (still unclaimed) Golden Dome Mosque in Samara - that (finally) the much anticipated sectarian civil war was about to get going.

Turns out, just about every religious and political leader advised people to not fall for it and, instead, blamed the foreign occupation for failing its security obligations.
