Dialogue de sourds… lost in translation? April 14, 2006
Posted by Delilah in : Islam/Arab Phobia, US, World, Iran , trackbackEither the newswire translation services suck or the Iranian president is out of his mind. I mean, seriously, I’d like to hear from some Iranians who can get back to transcript of his speeches in Persian and tell us what’s what.
Look at the headlines right now on Yahoo News:
# Iran Leader: Israel Will Be Annihilated AP - 1 hour, 9 minutes ago
# Iran president: “Zionist regime” a threat Reuters - 1 hour, 12 minutes ago
Somebody is being utterly irresponsible; I’m just not clear who, and for what purpose. I have no doubt that Ahmadinejad is defiant, I just don’t think he has the murderous intentions the western press wants to assign to him.
The West needs to step out of its bubble and learn about other cultures a little. Also, the West cannot expect the Muslim and Arab world to forever be subservient to its will. All those idiotic double standards, based on nothing more than pure western arrogance and colonialist mentality, have to be challenged strenuously and relentlessly. I believe that is what Ahmadinejad is doing with his rhetoric.
PS: you all might notice that I have started assigning posts on Iraq and Iran to the category “Islamophobia/Arabophobia”. That’s because, obviously, that’s what I think a great part of the military aggression comes from: pure, undiluted, raw, ethnic hate. If you’re not convinced, think back on the Dubai ports deal.
